Avery Hill Road Fire in Ledyard Under Investigation

Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Co. were called to 46 Avery Hill Rd. and found an active fire that burned a house, garage, shed and brush.

Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Companies were dispatched to the area of 46 Avery Hill Rd. for a smoke investigation, after a caller reported seeing black smoke in the area. The call came in at approximately 12:24 p.m. Friday, April 15.

While en route to the scene, the firefighters reported seeing a column of smoke and upon arrival, discovered multiple structures on fire.

"Due to the location of the fire, Laurel Hill's hose tender was started to lay the supply hose down the driveway which as about a half mile from the road," the Ledyard Fire Company wrote via Facebook. "Additional departments were requested for manpower due to the extent of fire. The fire burned a house, a garage, a shed and the surrounding brush."

By 2 p.m. Friday, the fire was under control. The Ledyard Fire Marshal's office and the State of CT Police Fire Investigation Unit are investigating this incident.

Mutual aid was received by Luarel Hill Fire Department, Norwich Fire Department, Mohegan Tribal Fire Department, Mohegan Volunteer Fire Department, Oakdale Fire Department, Preston City Fire Department, Poquotonuck Fire Department, Center Groton Fire Department, North Stonington Fire Department, Voluntown Fire Department, East Great Pains Fire Department, American Ambulance and the canteen unit. Old Mystic Fire Department and SubBase Fire Department provided coverage for Ledyard and Gales Ferry.

"The Ledyard Fire Company would like to thank everyone who assisted with this incident," firefighters said.
