Ledyard Man Reports Home Invasion, Turns Gun On Self: PD
A Ledyard man reported a home invasion, then shot himself after officers arrive at the scene.
LEDYARD, CT — A Ledyard man on Monday called police and falsely reported that he shot a man dead in a home invasion, but then shot himself and died. According to police, the man called them at 10:52 p.m. Monday and reported a shooting and possible home invasion at 40 Chapman Lane.
The man told police he shot the intruder dead. The caller also said he had suffered a "sucking chest wound."
However, Police said they arrived at the home and found the man sitting in a reclining chair in his living room. Police said the man was armed with a rifle that he had pointed at his face.

Officers tried to get the man to put down the weapon, but were unsuccessful. The man shot himself and died.
He was the only person involved in the incident, according to police.

Gales Ferry Fire Department, American Ambulance and Groton Town Police Department were also at the scene.
The State's Attorney Office from New London responded and assumed command of the investigation. The investigation is being conducted by the State Police Central District Major Crime Squad.
