LEDYARD, CT — Ledyard police are warning citizens about recent phishing scam attempts.

Ledyard police posted the following on Facebook: "Over the past few days, we've received reports of scam activity connected to Amazon Prime accounts. In one case, the person received a phishing email from 'Amazon Fraud Protection' about an alert on their account. Other scams in the area begin with a phone call.

"In some cases, the victim is asked to purchase and provide numbers of Amazon gift cards or other retail gift cards. In other cases, victims have opened a link and allowed access to their own accounts, including bank accounts or credit cards connected to their Amazon accounts.

"Scam emails sometimes appear very authentic and scammers use company and bank logos.

"You can report scam activity, even when you don't suffer a loss, to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/.
