The center is in desperate need of donations in order to keep operating. They provide assistance to the homeless, veterans and more in SE CT.

The New London Community Meal Center at 12 Montauk Ave. serves an average of 8,000 meals a month. The center provides meals to New London Homeless Hospitality Center guests every day.

But the Meal Center is in danger of ceasing operation. According to its Sept. 30 post on Facebook, they are in desperate need of help from the community.

“With our current funding, we will be unable to continue operations into the end of this year,” the Meal Center said. “Operating costs are approximately $15,000 a month and we are only taking in half that amount currently. Costs continue to rise while donations continue to decline. It is understandable that times are hard for everyone, but we are asking you to reach into your pockets and help us help the community.”

The Meal Center helps fight homelessness in southeastern Connecticut.

“Our clients are some of the most at-risk members of the community: homeless, disabled, veterans, elderly, and underemployed,” staff said. “For many what they receive at the Meal Center is the only meal they get for the day. For others it is a matter of either paying the rent or electric bill or being able to have dinner.”
