Opening Day Looms for Ledyard High School Teams

LEDYARD, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and preseason scrimmages are in full swing, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Ledyard High School. For a complete season schedule of Colonel varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• field hockey - Thursday, 9/6, at Stonington, 6:30 p.m.
• football - Thursday, 9/6, vs. Waterford, 6:30 p.m.
• boys soccer - Friday, 9/7, at Norwich Free Academy, 3:45 p.m.
• cross country - Saturday, 9/8, at Windham Invitational, 9 a.m.
• girls soccer - Saturday, 9/8, at Norwich Free Academy, 11 a.m.
• girls volleyball - Monday, 9/10, vs. Norwich Free Academy, 5:30 p.m.
• girls swimming - Friday, 9/14, vs. East Lyme, 6 p.m.
