UPDATE: Mystic Man, 71, Died After Being Found By Rescue Team
A search and rescue in the woods near Long Cove Road located the man. After being treated and taken to the hospital, he died.

LEDYARD, CT — The man search and rescue teams located in the woods Wednesday night has died. The Day reported that Joseph Kosztala, 71, of Mystic had been bow hunting. His family reported him missing at 6:30.
Shortly after 7 p.m., the first reports about a search effort appeared with a full search and rescue effort begun. Police, first responders, and tracking dogs were dispatched into the woods around Long Cove Road.

An initial reported said the hunter had not been heard from for hours. The Day reported, citing Gales Ferry Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Erhart,that Kosztala had last spoken by phone with his family around 5:15 p.m.

Initial reports indicated that mutual aid was called in from neighboring towns as well as search dogs, and a drone from Waterford.
At around 8:25 p.m., dispatchers could be heard saying the man was found and that EMT's were on their way to him. By 8:40, it was reported he man was being brought out of the woods. His condition is unknown.

At 9 p.m., it was reported by dispatchers that the man had been brought out of the woods and was being treated by medics. The Day report says that when search and rescue personnel found Kosztala, who dressed in camouflage and partially hidden by forest understory, the man had no pulse. He was revived and transported to the hospital where he died.
