Rep. Conley Expresses Concern with Proposed Budgets
"I will not vote on a budget that does not fund basic needs and ultimately hurts my district as well as thousands of Connecticut residents."

From the Connecticut General Assembly: State Representative Christine Conley (D-Ledyard, Groton) is dissatisfied with all the budgets that have been proposed before the July 1st deadline as they do not provide fair funding to critical services, education, or municipalities.
“I wanted a budget prior to today that funded services and municipalities fairly. There have been many versions of the budget, but there has not been a single budget that meets the needs of the state, critical services, and municipalities,” Rep. Conley said. “I will not vote on a budget that does not fund basic needs and ultimately hurts my district as well as thousands of Connecticut residents.”
Governor Malloy’s initial proposal revealed that Groton will receive the largest cut in the state, approximately $12.9 million. Ledyard’s aide would be cut by $1.8 million. Groton and Ledyard have continued to be on the receiving end of massive cuts in the other proposed budgets.

“Recently, there was a request for a mini budget that would maintain basic services until September,” Conley said. “However, this budget did not address municipal or school funding and I therefore cannot support it.”
Conley continued, “It is clear that July 1 will come with no budget, which means that the governor will be able to control government spending in two week increments. Time continues to be of the essence to get a budget passed. I'm currently going through the House Dems budget, which was proposed Thursday, and doing my due diligence. I will continue to diligently work towards a budget that includes funding for education, fairly distributes funds to municipalities, and meets the needs of my district, as well as Connecticut.”
