UPDATED: NWS Issues Heat Advisory

Town has cooling centers open till 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through 8 p.m., Tuesday. The town is using the libraries and senior center as cooling centers if you find that you need some air conditioning.

  • The Bill Library is open until 9 p.m. thru Thursday and 5 p.m., Friday.
  • The Gales Ferry Library is open until 8 p.m. thru Thursday and 5 p.m., Friday.
  • The Senior Center is open until 5 p.m. all week.

According to the NWS, "A heat advisory is issued if the heat index values reach 100 to 104 degrees. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.  To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency so please call 911."

  • Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 88. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 90.
  • Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
