Batten Down The Hatches, Madison: First Selectwoman

Beaches and rec facilities may close, and outdoor town sporting events are canceled, as Madison prepares for severe thunderstorms Thursday.

MADISON, CT — Depending on the path of forecasted thunderstorms Thursday afternoon, the town may opt to close beaches, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said.

Summarizing the forecast from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, which has "most of Connecticut Enhanced Risk Category" for severe thunderstorms and/or tornadoes until 8 p.m., Lyons said, "depending on the path of the storms, the Town may close beach and recreation facilities. All afternoon outdoor sports activities have been cancelled."

She also said, "as a precautionary measure, we recommend all residents take time to secure loose items in your yard that have potential to be thrown around by wind, and prepare for possible, isolated power outages and tree damage."
