MADISON, CT — Steve Filippone has resigned as head coach of the Daniel Hand High School football team, according to a report.
The decades-long winning coach, who retired in 2016, agreed last February to take the helm after the resignation of Dave Mastroianni.
GameTime reported that Filippone said he'd done what he was "asked to do," and resigned so that the school can find "someone who will be in the program for an extended period of time.”

As reported by Patch last February, then-Daniel Hand High School social studies teacher and Tigers head coach Mastroianni was placed on paid leave while district officials reviewed a "personal" matter concerning the educator and coach.

Then-Superintendent of Schools Thomas Scarice said the resignation was a mutual decision between the district and Mastroianni citing the educator's health and "personal matters."
Mastroianni resigned and longtime former championship-winning Hand coach Filippone was brought back it in to run the program.
