Firefighters Battle Christmas Chimney, House Fire

A chimney fire soon became a house fire on River Road late Christmas night. No injuries were reported but there was significant damage.

MADISON, CT — Late Christmas night, firefighters responded first to what was believed to be a chimney fire, which soon turned into a house fire on River Road.

As firefighters were on their way to the chimney fire call, a person inside the home made a second call saying the fire was now a house fire.

The Madison Hose Co. No. 1 reported on Facebook that when firefighters arrived at the home, they were able to "locate and extinguish fire in the basement and first floor."

Officials said that there was "significant fire and smoke damage to the single family home and the occupants were relocated."

No injuries were reported to the occupants or firefighters on scene.

The Town of Madison Fire Marshal’s office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Assistance on scene was provided by North Madison Volunteer Fire Company, Madison Ambulance Association, Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, Guilford Fire Department and the Red Cross.
