First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons To Run For Reelection

MADISON, CT — In late February of 2020, Peggy Lyons was 100 days into her role as the town's First Selectwoman when she spoke with Patch about how things were going. Within days of that interview, life would change dramatically as the coronavirus pandemic was about to tighten its grip.

In a post by Madison Democrats to Facebook Monday announcing Lyons' intention to seek reelection, she is quoted as saying that the pandemic forced her to go from "change maker to crisis leader." And she's "proud" of the way she and other town officials steered the town ship through seemingly unnavigable waters.

“Early in my first term, I was called upon to lead Madison through an unprecedented public health emergency, something not encountered in over 100 years. I was forced to rapidly pivot from change maker to crisis leader, then tasked with the enormous challenge of protecting the health and safety of our residents and town employees, while also maintaining the integrity of our local government and its essential services. In the face of COVID and its many physical, operational and emotional challenges, I am proud of the accomplishments I’ve made in partnership with my fellow Board of Selectmen members and Town officials. Although faced with many difficult decisions, we have taken the necessary actions required to protect our community while also managing to get things done in Town government," she was quoted as saying.

"Now in a second term, I’d like to continue to pursue some important policy goals, work with the community to make some key strategic decisions and carry out additional operational improvements to the benefit of all."
