Fiscal Woes Prompting Changes at Madison's Hammonasset Beach State Park: Report

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is recommending new policies.

MADISON, CT — The camping season at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison will be shortened in 2017 due to budget constraints, reports the New Haven Register.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has stopped taking camping reservations beyond Labor Day next year, following similar moves for other state parks in Connecticut.

The move is due to a cut of nearly $2 million in the department's budget for next year. Annual revenue from camping and parking at state parks totals about $6 million, writes the publication.
