Madison Car Thief Fled From Police At 100 MPH: Warrant

The alleged car thief fled in excess of 100 mph on a snowy night, according to police.

MADISON, CT — A New Haven man was arrested after he stole a vehicle in Madison and then fled police in a high-speed pursuit on a snowy night, according to police.

Deshawn Maysonet, 21, was arrested Sept. 24 on an active arrest warrant.

A State Police detective on patrol Feb. 28 in Madison noticed A Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Xterra traveling closely together around 1:30 a.m. during snow, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. One vehicle had heavy tints.

The vehicles started to travel faster after the detective turned around to follow them, according to the warrant.. The Hyundai Elantra cut off the detective, which prevented him from seeing the other vehicle’s license plate.

The detective then activated his emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicles over. Both vehicles then fled on Route 79. The Elantra then entered I-95 at speeds in excess of 100 mph and eventually exited in Westbrook. The pursuit was terminated in Clinton due to speed and bad roadway conditions.

Madison Police went to the Hyundai registered owner’s house who confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

State Police later learned that the Xterra was stolen from West Haven.

The Xterra was recovered in New Haven and a suspect was detained.

State Police would later determine that Deshawn Maysonet was in the Hyundai during the pursuit, according to the warrant.

On March 1 officers from State Police, New Haven Police and Madison Police searched for the Hyundai. It was spotted on Rosette Street. Maysonet was located in an apartment about a block away.

State Police seized Maysonet’s phone and found a video of him along with two others in the stolen Xterra, according to the warrant.

Maysonet was charged with engaging police in a pursuit, operating without a license, third-degree larceny, conspiracy, interfering with police and first-degree reckless endangerment.He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
