First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said the town is a leader in driving down healthcare costs as she also praised town employees for their being committed to their health and well-being.

“Coming from the private sector, I was encouraged to see many of the same types of wellness initiatives being offered by the Town that are found in corporate America. This is most important as healthcare and its rising costs are struggles facing all Connecticut municipalities. Madison is leading the way in driving healthcare costs down while promoting and supporting healthy choices and lifestyles for our employees," she said. "This is the type of initiatives that keep costs down, productivity up and drives teamwork and morale in government.”

The Healthy Workplace Employer Recognition Program was established to highlight the efforts of employers who understand the competitive advantage of a healthy workforce. The recognition program is presented by The Business Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety Roundtable, with the leadership support of Aircastle Advisor LLC, UnitedHealthcare of CT, Inc., and USI Insurance Services and with generous assistance from Aon.

“Reflecting the advances in health and preventative care, we are excited to see this year’s honorees offering program incentives that tie directly back to wellness initiatives,” stated Anthony Aguanno, UnitedHealthcare Senior Account Executive and co-chair of The Business Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety Roundtable. “As wellness programs continue to mature, and as wellness goals become more personalized, these companies are seeing health data trend positively. We applaud their efforts for creating opportunities for their employees to live happier, healthier and more productive lives.”

From encouraging physical activity and healthy behavior to managing chronic illness, these employers have made great strides in implementing a diverse range of programs within the workplace to assist their employees to live healthier lives.

“Changing behaviors, building engagement, measuring for outcomes, and helping employees to manage stress and achieve a work/life balance can be hard work,” Matthew Fair, Vice President, USI Insurance Services and co-chair of the Healthy, Wellbeing and Safety Roundtable said.

“The companies and professionals we honor with the Healthy Workplaces Employer Recognition have creatively and successfully delivered programs that ensure the health and productivity of their workforce while managing costs. Their increasing levels of participation across a diverse and mobile workforce are a testament to their commitment.”
