Madison's Independence Day Parade: What You Need To Know

The Madison Exchange Club's "gift to the town," the parade's grand marshal is COVID-19 "heroes." It steps off at 10 a.m. Sunday.

MADISON, CT —The Madison Exchange Club has organized, funded, and held the annual Independence Day parade for years with its all-volunteer members. This year, the club noted in a Facebook post, "due to the uncertainty of the pandemic," it only had five weeks to organize the entire parade. The Club said that the town asked it to hold the event at 10 a.m. on Sunday. And while some thought the time not ideal, it was necessary, and, got the blessing of a local pastor.

The Club explained:

"We received a request from the town to hold the event at 10 a.m. This request was due to the volume of residents and visitors who celebrate Independence Day at our beautiful beaches, parks, and homes. Our wonderful police force must respond to needs at the Surf Club, Hammonassett, the parade, and regular patrols on this busy day. It is for the safety of residents and our guests that the time of the parade is 10 a.m. this year. This time is not ideal for some, but one pastor in town, who was consulted about the 10 a.m. time, thought it was important for the town to come together at this event after such a difficult year."
