Add a sparkle of nature to your summer by coming to a series of free presentations this August at the new Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonasset Beach State Park. Experts will delight nature lovers of all ages with demonstrations, live animals, and hands-on experiences. All programs start at 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. There is free admission to the Park after 6:30 p.m. Parking is free.

  • Todd and Christine Cummings-Secki, from A Place Called Hope, will present a live raptor program of interest to folks of all ages, on August 5th.
  • Ranger Russ Miller, from Hammonasset Beach State Park, will delight the crowd with a program about live reptiles, on August 12th.
  • Gary Nolf from the World Atlatl Association demonstrates and instructs people with the use of the atlatl, a primitive hunting device used by hunter/gatherers, on August 19th.
  • Ranger Russ Miller will conclude the educational series with a fascinating program on Connecticut’s amphibians, on August 26th.

This is the 10th year of this series of presentations that honors Robert Schumann of Madison, Ct. Mr. Schumann was an avid birder, a former member of the board of the National Audubon, and strong supporter of Friends of Hammonasset.
