Update On Jose And Its Expected Impact On Madison (Evening Update)

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the area. Here's the latest details.

A Tropical Storm Watch continues to remain in effect for coastal areas of southern New Haven County including: Milford, Orange, West Haven, New Haven, East Haven, Branford, Guilford, and Madison, according to the National Weather Service.

While the Tropical Storm Watch is still in effect the impacts are not expected to be significant from Jose. There will be periods of heavy rain, some minor flooding concerns and winds that could gust up to 40 mph at times.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said Monday evening “Latest thinking on Hurricane Jose. Minor impacts here but some gusty wind and a few periods of heavy rain are expected.”

“Jose's impact here looks minor... some wind and rain. We've lowered our forecast some thanks to a jog east,” Hanrahan said.

The National Weather Service says “Hurricane Jose will continue to track slowly north through thewestern Atlantic waters through mid week, passing to the southeast of the area late Tuesday night into Wednesday as a tropical storm. The system will be close enough for potential impacts, including tropical storm force winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rainfall.”

“Tropical Storm Force winds are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday with sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 50 mph,” the weather service states. “Heavy rain bands may move in as early as the Tuesday morning rush, but the heaviest rain is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday with 1 to 3 inches possible. Localized flash flooding is also possible.”
