Saybrook Road Bike-Ped Improvements Coming

In 2013, the Jonah Center and Middletown’s Complete Streets Committee began to advocate for improvements to Saybrook Road near the Stop & Shop plaza. People who walk to the stores have no sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian crossing signals, or bike lanes. It’s a dangerous road where there have been 2 fatalities in recent years. We are happy to report that vast improvements to this area should be achieved during the 2021 construction season. Read more here.

Air Line Trail “Gap” In East Hampton Update

Portland’s section of the ALT extends across the East Hampton town line, but cycling further east is blocked by a 1200-foot gap in a narrow gorge where utility poles block the way. It looks now as if recent talks between the the Town of East Hampton, DEEP, and Eversource were productive, and the poles could be relocated as soon as next year. Read more and view map here.
