Due to high COVID rates, we are erring on the side of caution and will not host an organized nature hike in December. However, we encourage you to go ahead with the planned hike at your own designated time.

Highlawn Forest Overview:
Highlawn Forest is 275-acre preserve, under easement to CFPA, that includes conifer plantations, forests, and swamps. The 3-mile Blue Trail is primarily level and easy.
Directions: Highlawn Forest is located on Route 66, 4 miles east from Interstate 91, exit 18 or 2.7 miles west from Main/Washington Street junction. Trail head to right of CT Forest and Park Association building. (GPS address: 16 Meriden Rd, Rockfall, CT 06481)
Suggested Nature Hike: Take the Blue Trail clockwise around the property. In the area of the conifer plantation, consider the following quote and do a silent walking meditation. Afterwards, reflect on the difference you noticed while walking silently compared with a usual hiking style.
Be aware of the contact between your feet and the Earth. Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet. We have caused a lot of damage to the Earth. Now it is time for us to take good care of her. We bring our peace and calm to the surface of the Earth and share the lesson of love. We walk in that spirit. Each step we take will create a cool breeze, refreshing our body and mind. Every step makes a flower bloom under our feet. We can do it only if we do not think of the future or the past, if we know that life can only be found in the present moment.
