Fire Destroys Home, Support Pours In For Middletown Family
A mother and her three children, including a son with autism, have been displaced after a fire destroyed their home this past weekend.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The community is rallying around a Middletown family after a fire destroyed their home on Bartholomew Road on Saturday morning. A GoFundMe account and a Facebook page has been launched in support of the Majewskis/Flanders family.
The Middletown Press reports Jane Flanders and her three children — Caleb, 17, Hannah, 14, and Sam, 10, were displaced from their home after a fire broke out around 9 a.m. after they rushed out of the house on a typically hectic Saturday morning. Caleb has autism and child-onset schizophrenia and suffers from delusions that he sometimes escapes by leaving in the middle of the night, according to the Middletown Press.
Jodi Flanders Fore created the Facebook page “Support The Majewski's” for her sister and her family. In a post on the page, Flanders Fore wrote that Caleb “has a heart of gold, and the eyes of a child. He loves the Huskies, and the Wolfpack. He plays Hockey. He loves Marvel Superheroes.” She said Hannah is a “fabulous artist. She loves reading books, and may be more well-read than I am.” Sam loves “the ocean, trains, and playing World of Warcraft with his aunt,” according to Flanders Fore.

On the GoFundMe page, Hannah wrote an introduction to herself and her family and the ordeal they have been through. Read it in her own words below:
Hello World, it's me, Hannah.
Can you stop for a moment so I can get off?
Thanks.
Here is the thing.
I had this life. The kind everyone loves. Two parents. Two big brothers and a baby brother.
My mom was the room mother making cornucopia breads with my classmates.
We had chickens, - garden and a circle of friends.
Then my best friend’s baby brother died in a pool drowning and since then I'm in a rollercoaster ride that is hell!
My dad had a heart attack.
My autistic brother wasn't just autistic. He didn't know who we were and was escaping delusions by wandering in the night alone ... terrified for that we were going to hurt him.
Psychotic issues. I watched my mom sleep on the floor in the front hallway to block the door to keep him safe. I watched my parents fighting to levels I couldn't imagine.
I watched her lose her state job because she couldn't manage caring for him and my dad’s issues ... well, she managed while she begged for services that the governor had unfunded.
She fought for us. She believed in us even as we gave up on ourselves.
My little brother and I have PTSD. That's the social workers way of saying life gave us pain and our minds coped in ways that don't work for today.
We were just climbing out of the hell. My mother was enforcing the restraining order in spite of it being hard. The supports started. We found peace with family on the island. We planned to relocate this fall...
amd then Saturday came.
Saturday was like all the chaotic days in our lives.
We raced around in our chaos to get to her dental appointment and calebs school hockey game.
Sam couldn't find his sneakers. Caleb was anxious for his big day. I hate mornings and my mom was losing patience with us because she hates being late. We rushed into the car ... as we often do.
Only this day?
Our house burned down.
All of our stuff is gone. We have to rebuild. We don't know if we can still move forward with plans to relocate closer to family.
Everyone is asking how to help us.
Our stuff is in a car while we wait for the next step.
Gift cards? Gas cards? Marshalls?
This fundraiser?
I'm going to believe that this is the end of the trials that we went through. I have to! I ache to be a normal. Peaceful. Family once again.
I know when we get there? We are the type to give back more than we receive. That's how we are. Like my mom says ... she's a seaglass kind of woman. Find her a pretty seaglass? She will love you forever. Buy her a diamond and she will wonder at your stupidity for wasting money.
Thank you for reading.
Hannah
