Happy Summer Solstice! 1st Day of Summer Sunday, 6-20-21
The Summer Solstice or the 1st Day of Summer Arrives on 6-20-21 at Precisely 11:32 P.M.

The Summer Solstice is almost here! Hooray! It is the first day of Summer. Summer arrives on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at precisely 11:32 p.m. EDT according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
What is the Summer Solstice? This event officially marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere because it happens "...when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (about 23.5 degrees) toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year," according to the Old Farmer's Almanac article "Summer Solstice 2021: The First Day of Summer". In our Northern Hemisphere the sun rays "...strike Earth at a more direct angle, causing the efficient warming we call summer," from the same article. If you are outside on the Summer Solstice you will notice that the sun will be at its "...highest in the sky on this day, you’ll notice that your shadow (at local, or solar, noon, not clock-time noon) is the shortest that it will be all year," from the same article. If you happen to live in the Southern Hemisphere on June 20th then the opposite will happen. It will be the first day of Winter and the shortest day of the year. But thankfully we live in the Northern Hemisphere where it will be hot and not frigid.
