The Kate Launches Virtual Museum Exhibit, Live Panel Discussion
The Kate announces the launch of a new virtual Katharine Hepburn Museum exhibit titled "Katharine Hepburn: Unintentional Trailblazer."

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, is pleased to announce the launch of a new virtual Katharine Hepburn Museum exhibit titled “Katharine Hepburn: Unintentional Trailblazer.” This project was funded in part by a grant from Connecticut Humanities and features items from the Kate’s collection of memorabilia and several on-loan items including Hepburn home movies that are held at the University of Hartford Archives and Special Collections.
A live panel discussion related to the virtual exhibit will be hosted by Ann Nyberg on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 2 pm (EDT) on the Kate’s YouTube channel. This free event is an in-depth discussion and analysis of Katharine Hepburn’s grasp on the power of her appearance. Panelists include Jean Druesedow, curator of the exhibit “Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen” and Director Emerita of the Kent State University Museum; and Judy Samelson, former editor of PLAYBILL magazine and an honorary member of the Kate’s board of trustees.
“Kate was deliberate in defining her style, selecting clothes that complemented her long and narrow physique,” said Brett Elliott, executive director of the Kate. “She continues to be recognized for her unique style and this program explores how that came to be.”
The virtual exhibit is comprised of three modules: “Bringing Up Kate’ explores her close-knit family and the influence of her high-achieving and progressive parents, as well as her ties to Old Saybrook. “Live Up to Your Potential” is a look into her drive and determination to be a hit as an actress and the longevity of her career. And “Image is Everything” delves into her fashion style and the careful crafting of her public persona.
