The Middle Passage Ceremony For Commemoration and Racial Justice

Was Saturday October 10th

The ceremony, hosted by the Middlesex County Historical Society and several community partners, commemorated the hundreds of enslaved Africans brought to Middletown beginning in 1661, acknowledged the Wangunk Native American original inhabitants of Middletown, and highlighted current racial justice efforts in Middletown. It was held at the site of the UNESCO Port Marker Site of Memory commemorative plaque, which was dedicated at the first annual ceremony last year.
