Mother Files Complaint Against Independent Day School Teacher [UPDATE]

Middletown resident Andrew Watt faces charges after allegedly striking a student in class.

On March 24, Sgt. John H. Mesham with the Connecticut State Police initiated an investigation after an allegation was made against an Independent Day School teacher.

According to Mesham, teacher Andrew Watt, 45, of 175 College St., 1F, Middletown, allegedly struck a 13-year-old student in the head.

The complaint was made by the student’s mother and was reported to have occurred on March 9, 2016, during the school day.

After interviewing the victim and witnesses, Mesham drafted an arrest warrant for the accused teacher, Watt, charging him with risk of injury and breach of peace in the second degree.

The arrest warrant was served on Monday, April 19, police said. He was transported to Troop F in Westbrook to be processed.

Watt was released after posting a $5,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 3.
