Theory Behind Use of Mindfulness and Circle in Times of Crisis
Holding a presidential election during a pandemic has brought a new element of stress to an already stressful moment in time. On top of that we are approaching winter while bracing for a "second wave" of COVID cases (and the changes/challenges that will follow both).
We've been operating under the premise that "if adults aren't ok, then our kids can't be either". For some context on that you may want to listen to the episode of the Brain Architects Podcast from April 21 which talks about toxic stress and caregivers (the focus is on young children but the themes are universal).
The GMCC is trying to do our best to ensure that those working on behalf of youth, families, and community have a sense of being supported themselves so that we may be as close the best version of ourselves as possible in this work. This workshop will be a mix of some self-care activites and strategic planning around what we can do to create a system of supports for our community.
