Obituary: Maria Oniela Bonet, 73, formerly of Middletown
Maria loved arts, crafts and crocheting and was known for the warm, gentle and adoring care that she gave to her family and friends.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Maria Oniela Bonet, 73, of Meriden, and formerly of Middletown passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13th, 2021.
Born in Puerto Rico on June 13, 1947, a daughter of the late Emilio and Maria (Rivera) Huertas.
Maria grew up in Puerto Rico with her 12 siblings; as a young woman she met and fell in love with Raul Bonet, the couple married on September 13, 1969.

They made their home in Middletown where they raised their daughters together.
Maria enjoyed crocheting and making arts and crafts. She found joy in gifting many family members with her beautiful crafting projects over the years.

She also participated in her daughter’s school PTO. Maria loved to cook and feed everyone and enjoyed the many family gatherings at her home.
Maria cherished her grandsons, Joseph and Dario, and supported them in their sports activities. She was the most loving Aunt to her nieces and nephews, fondly known as “Titi Sony”.
She was also a loving and caring friend; her warm, gentle, and adoring care will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Maria will be missed immensely by her husband, Raul Bonet; her daughters, Dortiza Bonet of Middletown and Vanessa Bonet of Manchester; her grandchildren, Joseph Rigano and Dario Rigano; her sisters, Amelia Shelton, Rosa Rodriguez, Iris Huertas and Lucy Huertas; her brothers, Ishmael Huertas, Antonio Huertas and Joaquin Huertas; and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to both of her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Alfreida, Emelia, Milagros, Annie, Roberto and Saul.
Maria’s family will receive friends and family on Friday, March 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 890 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 20th directly at St. Rose Church, 35 Center St., Meriden.
Interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery will follow. Covid-19 precautions will be followed and face coverings required for all services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/donate.
