Obituary: Robert L. Doolittle, 95, of Middletown

Robert worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 41 years and was an active member of the Doolittles of America Society, Inc.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home): In Middletown March 14, 2021 Robert L. Doolittle 95, of Middletown. Born on January 14, 1926 in New Britain, he was the eldest son of the late Arthur M. and Ruth J. Doolittle.

He had lived in Portland since 1958.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Portland where he taught Sunday School and was a Past Deacon. He moved to Middletown in 2018. His favorite hobby was doing carpentry work and woodworking.

He was an active member of the Doolittles of America Society, Inc. for many years.

He volunteered in the Army of the United States in WWII and saw combat in Europe in 1944 and 1945 as a tank gunner with the 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion.

He was at the Battle of the Bulge in Marche, Belgium when the Nazi Army pushed through there on Christmas Day 1944.

He worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 41 years.

He is survived by a son, Gary S. Doolittle of Freiburg, Germany; 2 grandsons Christoph A. and Sebastian A. Doolittle both of Freiburg; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine S. Doolittle; a sister Evelyn Zwick and brothers Edwin A. Doolittle and Richard N. Doolittle.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1:30 pm in Mt. Carmel Burying Ground. Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden in care of arrangements.
