Power Plant & Bike Trail Action Alerts

From Jonah Center Director John Hall

Resist Middletown Power Plant Expansion
The Jonah Center and Ecoin (Environmental Collective Impact Network) are organizing a campaign to oppose a new, large natural gas/oil-powered generator in Middletown. The reasons are: 1) Connecticut already generates and exports surplus power; 2) it is inconsistent with state and local climate goals; and 3) it would negatively impact local air quality.

According to DEEP’s model, the new turbine would add an additional 76 tons of particulate matter (hazardous to respiratory health) to our local air every year. Most important: We need to stop burning more fossil fuels. At the January 19 Town Hall, we will explain the issues and opportunities for intervention. Help Us Get Funding for the Central Connecticut Loop Trail
John Hall’s op-ed in the CT News Junkie describes the many benefits of active transportation (bicycling, walking, wheelchairs, etc.) and how the Central CT Loop Trail would connect existing trails and create a 111-mile loop, passing though East Hampton, Portland, Middletown, Meriden, Cheshire, Simsbury, Hartford, East Hartford, Manchester, and Willimantic.
