The purpose of the project would be to replace and upgrade existing traffic control signals and communications equipment at fifteen state-owned coordinated intersections along U.S. Route 5/Route 15 (Berlin Turnpike) that have surpassed their life expectancy and do not meet current Department standards. The project will also include the installation of Adaptive Traffic Signal Control and the deployment of Connected Vehicle technology.

“For the amount of people that use the Berlin Turnpike every day, the traffic lights and traffic system should be as up to date as possible and be nothing but the best for all drivers,” said Sen. Lesser.

The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $13 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds. The public informational meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project
