Unique Eatery Opening In Former Jailhouse In Middletown

The owner of the popular NoRA Cupcake Company is joining forces with a senior staff member to open Harrie's Jailhouse in a historic building

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A unique eatery is opening in a historic former jailhouse in Middletown, according to the Middletown Press.

The Press reports the owner of the popular NoRA Cupcake Company, Carrie Carella, is joining forces with a senior staff member to open Harrie’s Jailhouse at 51 Warwick St. The new restaurant, specializing in comfort food, will be located in the historic 1850s Pamecha Jail, which most recently was the home of the Bread And Water restaurant.

Carella recently announced in a post on Facebook that she was partnering with Heather Kelly, operations manager at NoRA Cupcake Company, to open Harrie’s Jailhouse. Carella originally hired Kelly when she was the general manager at Eli Cannon’s.

Kelly eventually joined Carella at NoRa and became her operations manager in 2015 “overlooking many stores, employees, weddings, and events.”

“After many, many years of planning, saving, and hustlin cupcakes all over the state, Heather and I have partnered together to open a completely different concept in our beloved little city of Middletown,” Carella wrote in the post. “We want to welcome and introduce you to the newest family member, Harrie's Jailhouse, located in the historic 1850s Pameacha Jail at 51 Warwick Street, Middletown, CT. We will be serving up solid sandwiches, housemade bar snacks, and classic cocktails – all with a twist. Harrie's takes the nostalgia of a classic sandwich and twists it a bit to take it to that next level.

“Sandwiches aren't perfect, they are sloppy – just like life. Don't take things so seriously. Enjoy a beer and a sandwich. We look forward to welcoming you soon - we are hoping February/March 2021!”

According to a post on the Harrie’s website, they believe there is “no better food than a quality sandwich.”

“Not too extravagant, and nothing that you need a dictionary to look up the ingredients for,” the post reads. “Fresh artisan bread, meat, cheese, veggies, or a combo of all three, finished with housemade condiments. Ratios of this trinity are key. Harrie's takes the nostalgia of a classic sandwich and twists it a bit to take it to that next level. Most of our menu items will evoke a fond memory or pay homage to the greats before us.

“Our bar and restaurant spaces are conducive to all gatherings and events. Meeting up for a quick drink, taking the family out to celebrate, or planning a party? All of the above and more can be accommodated on-premises or off with our catering packages. Our focus on hospitality has been ingrained in us from our combined years working in the service industry, along with our extensive catering background. Despite the fact that you're technically in jail, you'll be right at home at Harrie's.”
