World Health Organization’s Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove
Talks on the Global Pandemic, Variants and Vaccines

This week, hosts Mark Masselli and Margaret Flinter speak with Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 Technical Lead at the World Health Organization. They discuss the lack of global readiness and supply chain infrastructure to meet the demands of the pandemic.
She says the lessons learned from this collective ‘trauma’ are sparking new efforts at the WHO to build more connected surveillance and response systems to address emerging pathogens. Dr. Van Kerkhove looks at the new 'variant of concern' out of India, and the need to accelerate global vaccinations to stop the continued spread of the pandemic.
