Coronavirus Monroe: Budget Referendum Canceled

Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order leaves budget approval up to towns' budget making authorities.

MONROE, CT — Monroe won't have its annual budget referendum due to the new coronavirus. Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order requires town budget making authorities to approve the budget.

First Selectman Kevin Kellogg said residents can still voice public input before the Board of Finance's final decision. Meeting agendas will have instructions on how to offer input remotely.

The Monroe Democratic Town Committee said that Lamont should consider allowing budget votes on June 2, which is when there is a scheduled primary in Connecticut.
