Coronavirus Monroe: Town Has Second Death

Monroe has 50 confirmed coronavirus cases and two deaths from the coronavirus.

MONROE, CT — Monroe had its second coronavirus-related death and now has 50 laboratory-confirmed cases. The town was recently notified about previously unreported cases after the state Department of Public Health conducted data validation and cleanup, said First Selectman Ken Kellogg.

"Despite some of the increase in cases coming from the state data cleanup, we clearly continue to see additional, newly diagnosed cases in Town and throughout Fairfield County," he said in a letter to the community. "You may recall that nearly two weeks ago, state officials were predicting that we were perhaps a few weeks away from peaking in Fairfield County. While we hope this means we are approaching a plateau of new cases, that still remains to be seen."

Kellogg said that the town community and social services department will establish a donation box at the senior center for homemade cloth masks. Gov. Ned Lamont issued an executive order that mandates the use of masks in public when social distancing becomes difficult, such as in a grocery store.
