Discovery Of Vial Of Cocaine At Monroe School Under Investigation
The vial was found last week at Monroe Elementary School.

MONROE, CT — Local police are investigating the discovery last week of a vial of powdered cocaine at Monroe Elementary School.
The vial was found by a staff member in a third grade classroom, and Monroe police were notified about the discovery immediately, according to School Superintendent Joe Kobza. Preliminary testing of the substance revealed it was cocaine.
"We immediately turned the situation over to the police department which, in turn, initiated an investigation, including a canine search of the room while the children were outside," Kobza wrote in a letter to parents, a copy of which was obtained by Patch.

The district did not release specific information on the particular classroom where the vial was found, but Kobza said that all the families associated with that classroom also have been contacted.
"We also ask that you take caution if you decide to share any of this information with your children," Kobza said, adding the district has suggestions on how to talk to children about the matter. "We do not believe that any students (even the students in the classroom) have any knowledge of today’s incident."
Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact the Monroe Police Department at 203-261-3622.
