Hazardous Traffic Intersection Under Scrutiny
It has been the location of 57 motor vehicle accidents, two of which had fatalities, since 2000.

MONROE, CT --- The Easter Sunday accident at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Route 110, the latest in a long line of traffic tragedies there, has transportation officials once again grasping for a solution.
The Monroe Courier is reporting that state Department of Transportation officials provided a plan Tuesday that calls for doubling up on signage at that northbound intersection. Monroe officials have made no decision on this latest proposal, but the DOT plans to submit the recommendation to the Board of Police Commissioners.
The CT Post has noted that numerous modifications to signage and lines of sight have been made at and around the intersection. These included the stop signs on Wheeler Road being made larger, “stop ahead” and “stop” painted onto the roadway, the widening of the stop line, the removal of a line of pine trees, and the installation of intersection warning signs on Route 110.
