An Elm Street resident awoke to loud cracking sounds at around 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 2, but was unable to see anything at the time, police said. However, later that morning, at approximately 6:29, she saw her neighbor's smashed up $200 mailbox and post in her yard with its contents strewn on the lawn, tire marks and a guide pole — that had been dug four feet into the ground — laying on its side, according to the report.
Though the driver fled the scene, police said the front bumper with an attached license plate was left behind.
Officers are investigating the incident and an arrest is anticipated.
