Realtor couple talk about doing business in Monroe as part of Patch's Small Business Profile series.

Business: Real Estate by Donna and Michael Pantano
Owners: Real Estate Team at William Raveis Real Estate
Address: Our home office in Monroe and 945 White Plains Road, Trumbull

How did you come up with the name?
One of our clients who was very pleased with our services said we have our own special way of treating our clients and mentioned that it’s “Real Estate by Donna and Michael Pantano” so that is what we call our business. We are Realtors with William Raveis Real Estate. We are a wife/husband team and Monroe residents. We consider ourselves to be unique in that we handle every transaction as a team of two. Our clients love having the benefit of two Realtors handling their sale or purchase with care and attention to detail. We are winners of the Raveis Excellence in Customer Service Award, Members of the Raveis Chairman’s Club and Certified Homeownership Professionals. We pride ourselves in being constantly available to our clients. We answer our phones!

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
Although we primarily work from our home office on Stonewall Lane in Monroe, our Raveis office is at 945 White Plains Road in Trumbull. Raveis had a Monroe office until recently when they consolidated their Monroe and Trumbull offices in the one large Trumbull office. As Monroe residents, we specialize in Monroe.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Complete Real Estate Services.

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
Our business is built on referrals. We are constantly working to guide our clients through the home buying or selling process with ease. Coordinating a transaction and moving a family from one property to another seamlessly is our goal. We are always working hard to achieve this. Our satisfied clients are our best advertisement.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
We love what we do. We’ve met so many wonderful families. It’s always a thrill to see help someone realize their real estate dream.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
We sold a home in Redding and our clients then bought a home in Monroe. An employment opportunity had them calling us to list their home. We sold their lovely Monroe home to one of our own clients. Now they asked us to look for a vacation lake house for them here in Connecticut. It’s rewarding to have faithful clients.

What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
One of our clients many years ago suggested an “extras page” for their home brochure. This is an opportunity for the homeowner to showcase the things they love about their home or the maintenance/renovations they have performed. We create this page for all of our listings.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
Buying or selling a home is a process. When faced with a difficult home buyer or home seller, we find it helps to be very clear every step of the way. Explaining everything helps create a happy experience for all.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
We are involved in the Monroe Food Bank and always participate in the Winter Coat Drive. We are planning a special Christmas giving event this year for a local charity.
