Monroe Gets State Grant

The grant will help cover the costs of replacing the town's emergency radio system.

MONROE, CT — Monroe will receive around $128,000 in state funding to help replace the town’s public safety radio system.

The Town of Monroe is paying $1.22 million as well for the project.

The money comes from the Small Town Economic Assistance Program. Gov. Ned Lamont approved more than $11 million in state funding. The STEAP program helps small towns with infrastructure projects. This batch helped 94 small towns.

“Our small towns have been hit hard by COVID-19 and are in need of our help to fund these projects,” Governor Ned Lamont said in a statement. "Simply put, some of our small towns need to modernize their infrastructure so that we can support efforts to grow the economy but lack the property tax base they need to fully fund these projects on their own."
