Monroe Memorial Day Parade 2017: Details, Marcher Policy and More
Here is what you need to know about the annual parade.

MONROE, CT — The town's Memorial Day Parade steps off at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28. Participants will gather on Elm Street South of Rte. 111, and travel on Rte. 11 up to the Town Green where a wreath laying ceremony will take place.
Road Closures:
The roads around the parade will be closed, according to police.
"The roads surrounding the parade route will be closed at 1:45 PM and no traffic will be allowed in either direction on Monroe Turnpike between the Town Green and the Monroe Turnpike/Elm Street intersection. All side streets and shopping plazas will also be blocked preventing vehicles from entering onto the parade route. Please plan your activities in advance to avoid getting stuck on the day of the parade."

Marcher Policy:
From the Town Website:
There shall be no agendas, commercialization (no coupons, discounts, etc.) and no political messaging appearing during the parade other than announcing your float. There should be no campaigning for upcoming elections nor any campaign literature, signage, apparel or campaign paraphernalia. Poppers (for horse’s sake) and silly string are strictly prohibited. Candy can be thrown into the crowd to avoid children running into the marchers.

What should always be displayed are the American flag and any creative ways that we can say "thank you" to our veterans and honor them with salutes and handshakes. Patriotic songs, poems, tales are welcomed.
