Monroe Residents Express Concern Over Projected Tax Increase
Taxes could increase 2.6 percent under the proposed town and Board of Education budgets.
MONROE, CT — Some residents expressed concern over the proposed Monroe budget, which could push the town's mill rate to 36.51. Seven residents spoke at a recent meeting with six of them expressing concern.
First Selectman Ken Kellogg reduced the Board of Education's budget ask by $500,000, which would be a 4.01 percent increase from the current year, according to the Monroe Sun.
The town side of the budget would increase .6 percent over the current year. The town is facing a 10 percent projected hike in medical insurance costs and increased costs for recycling and police pensions.

One resident complained that her son's classroom at Stepney Elementary School had 24 to 25 students despite the growing school budget.
