Monroe Small Business Spotlight: Creative Kids Craft Studio

Our business series features local business owners. This week we feature a Monroe an arts and crafts studio.

MONROE, CT-- Our Small Business Spotlight shines a light on local businesses we may not know that well.

What business are you in? Creative Kids Craft Studio is an arts and crafts studio where kids and adults can make a variety of fun crafts. The studio features birthday parties, adult BYOB nights, drop-in craft making and speciality workshops.

How did you come up with the name? Our name says it all, we are a place for kids to be as creative as they like while they make fun crafts.

Why start a business in this town? Monroe is the perfect town for our business because of the number of schools and children, as well as the amount of local interest in learning artistic skills and creating unique craft projects.

What’s the most difficult challenge you’ve faced as a business owner? Getting the word out about the studio. We are located just off of Route 111 on Elm Street which means that there isn't much drive-by exposure. We have relied on word-of-mouth and Facebook to spread information about the studio because everyone who comes here seems to want to tell all of their friends and bring a group back for a fun crafting play date.

What’s been your proudest achievement since opening? I am extremely proud of the unique crafts which we offer. We are not the usual pottery and canvas craft studio, we offer 20-30 unique craft projects for all ages, genders and abilities which use a wide variety of craft materials.

How does your business give back to the community? Creative Kids hosted the free craft table at the Monroe Farmer's Market where we met lots of creative kids. Creative Kids also offers a discount to scout troops and school groups. Creative Kids loves kids, but we also love animals. We have collected toys and treats for military service dogs, money for CorgiAid, and we use the fleece scraps left over from our no-sew pillows to make blankets for the animals at local shelters.
