Publisher to Shut Down Monroe Courier
Ridgefield-based HAN is ending publication of the Easton Courier, Monroe Courier, Redding Pilot, Stratford Star and Weston Forum.
MONROE, CT — After more than 50 years of publication, The Monroe Courier is shutting down.
In a notification on The Courier's website, Martin V. Hersam, publisher and CEO at the Courier's parent HAN Network, said, “Due to economic forces buffeting our industry we are rescaling our business again . The recent volatility of the newsprint market made our options clear.”
Also shuttering are The Courier's sister sites, The Easton Courier, Weston Forum, Redding Pilot, and Stratford Star. Avoiding the ax will be The Darien Times, New Canaan Advertiser, Wilton Bulletin, Ridgefield Press, Milford Mirror, Trumbull Times and Shelton Herald.

“Monroe, like the other markets we are exiting, is a wonderful town with remarkable residents and we enjoyed being their print and digital local news source," Hersham said. "Newspapering is a business we truly love and it saddens us to leave after such a long run. Unfortunately we could not operate at a financial loss here any longer.”
