Coronavirus Montville: Mohegan Sun May Handle Hospital Overflow
A new plan calls for Mohegan Sun to serve as an overflow site for patients.
MONTVILLE, CT — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scouting Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort as a major location for health facilities expansion, The New Haven Register reported. The Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford is also being scouted by the Corps.
The news comes as officials said that hospitals soon won't be able to handle the surge of coronavirus patients coming in. The National Guard is also working on setting up field hospitals at locations like Webster Arena in Bridgeport and Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, The Register reported.
The state reported 578 new cases Monday, with the total number of confirmed cases at 2,571 and 517 hospitalizations. Thirty-six people have died of the COVID-19 virus in Connecticut.
