Courtland "Court" Fowler, Montville Marine, Passed Away March 20

Courtland “Court” Fowler, 87, formerly of Church Lane, passed away March 20, 2015 at Avalon Healthcare in Mystic. He was born October 8, 1927 in Montville, the son of the late Courtland E. and Hope Fowler. He married Genevieve (Chmielewski) June 26, 1954 in Norwich. She survives him.

He served in the Army 1st Cavalry for 1 ½ years and then joined the Marines and served in Korea. He received the Bronze Star with V for Valor and was one of the 18 survivors out of 200 men.

He was a member of the Mohegan Tribe and served on the Tribal Council and Tribal Elders. He was on the Council that won federal rec0ognition. He served on the Burial Committee and had a very special place in his heart for the Burial Grounds. Courtland was also a talented beader and made many pieces of jewelry for other tribal members.

In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by his two sons David Fowler and his wife Nancy of Uncasville, Bruce Fowler of Uncasville, daughter Anita Fowler of Uncasville, brother Carlisle Fowler and wife Charlotte of Uncasville, sister Betty Carignan of Uncasville and sister Dawn Plante and husband Lee of Uncasville, by his grandchildren Meagen, David, Jacob and Zachary Fowler.
