CT Mayor's Car Stolen From Driveway

A town's top political official had her car stolen recently.

WINSTED, CT — Winsted Mayor A. Candy Perez's 2011 Lexus RX 350 was stolen from her home sometime between midnight Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, according to The Republican-American. She had left the keys in the unlocked car, which belongs to her partner, Nora Mocarski.

Thieves targeting unlocked cars has been a problem throughout the state.

Winchester police recently posted about the issue on their Facebook page: "The Winchester Police Department kindly requests that whenever you leave your vehicle unattended or parked your vehicle in your own driveway that you lock the vehicle and remove the keys from inside the vehicle. Lately, offenders are going through vehicles that have been left unlocked. Please help protect yourself and do not leave yourself vulnerable to criminal activity."
