Here’s How Montville Residents Voted In 2018 Primary Election

MONTVILLE, CT — The battle to succeed Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in November will come down to Democrat Ned Lamont and Republican Bob Stefanowski. Lamont walloped his primary challenger, Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim, by 171,658 to 39,854. On the Republican side, Stefanowski earned 41,957 votes followed by Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, 30,457, David Stemerman, 26,266, former Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst, 25,091, and Steve Obstinik, 19,119.

For Lieutenant Governor, Democrat Susan Bysiewicz defeated Eva Zimmerman by a margin of 129,484 to 78,870 and on the Republican side Joe Markley defeated New Britain Mayor Erin Steward and Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson. Markley earned 65,702 votes, Stewart, 45,258 and Stevenson, 27,138.

Other big winners from across the state last night include: Matthew Corey who won his GOP primary to run for U.S. Senate against Chris Murphy, and in the 5th District congressional primary former National Teacher of the Year Jahana Hayes defeated her party-endorsed challenger Mary Glassman while on the Republican side Manny Santos defeated Ruby Corby-O’Neil and Rich DuPont.

Democrats picked Stamford's William Tong to run for State Attorney General and Republicans picked Sue Hatfield. For Treasurer Democrats voted for Shawn Wooden over Greenwich resident Dita Bhargava, and Republicans choose Thad Gray.

Locally, in Montville on the Democratic side, Lamont received 621 votes and Ganim 132, Bysiewicz earned 509 and Zimmerman 233. Also, for the 38th State Representative District, local Democrats voted for Patrick Murphy, 131, Baird Welch-Collins, 69, and Nick Gauthier, 56.

(Editor's Note: The 38th District race, which Welch-Collins leads by eight votes overall - 616 votes to Murphy's 608 - will be the focus of recounts in Montville and Waterford on Aug. 20 and 21 to officially declare the winner, reports The Day.)

On the Republican side, Boughton received 140 votes in Montville, Herbst, 161, Obstinik, 123, Stefanowski, 182, and Stemerman, 60 votes. Markley received 284 votes, Stewart, 214 and Stevenson, 150.
