Obituary: Hugh Devlin, 87, Of Waterford

WATERFORD, CT - Hugh Joseph Devlin, Jr., 87, formerly of Waterford, died Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London after a long illness.

He was born in New London September 14, 1930, the son of Hugh and Emma Traystman Devlin. He was a graduate of the former Chapman Technical High School, and served in the United States Navy. He was the proprietor of the former Hughie’s Restaurant in New London.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Arlene Devlin; five daughters, Harley Manning, Sherry Avolone, Susan Neistat, Tracey Armaos, Alisha Morrison; step-daughters Kim Evans, Robin Evans and Jill Bunkley. He has a sister Carol Sandrew and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 5 PM this evening at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, followed by visitation until 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
