Trial Of Woman Accused Of Stealing Grandmother's ID Begins

In reports, police said that Jessica L. Chacho got access to her grandmother's bank account in 2014 and stole money.

MONTVILLE, CT — The Day reports that the trial of a Montville woman "accused of stealing her late grandmother's identity along with tens of thousands of dollars"began Tuesday with jury selection.

Jessica L. Chacho, 37, pleaded not guilty to first-degree larceny and four counts of first-degree identity theft.

The Norwich Bulletin reported that Chacho got access to her grandmother’s bank account in 2014 and "liquidated stocks into it and took money out." The grandmother died in May 2016.

Police said Chacho made wire transfers from her grandmother’s bank account before and after her death, the Bulletin report notes, adding that "Chacho confessed that she used the money she withdrew to gamble, to buy cigarettes and to help her dad obtain medication to help him stay off heroin." But claimed that she was given permission by her late grandmother.
