MONTVILLE, CT — Today we inaugurate a new periodic series on Montville Patch, highlighting young student-athletes who are considered "unsung heroes." They are not necessarily the big star, but rather one who works hard, is a good student, is a positive influence and strives for the betterment of his or her school and/or community.

Name: Juliette Hammer
School: Tyl Middle School, grade 6
Sport: ice hockey
Nominated by: Amy Hammer

"Juliette plays hockey for the Southeastern CT Seahawks out of Norwich. This season, Juliette started her own charity called #HammerDown. Julie is a defenseman for her team and is known for using her strength in any means possible to stop an opposing player, which often leads to her falling. This year she decided to raise $1 for every fall of the season to donate to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The season is now over and Julie had a total of 149 falls and has managed to raise over $1,000, which she will be donating in the upcoming weeks. We are so proud of her for this selfless act, and all while maintaining her grades and making honor roll her first trimester of middle school. She is an amazing kid!"
